Track and Field Events- 7th and 8th Graders

This year, the 7th and 8th graders here at Leawood Middle School have gotten the opportunity to partake in the track and field events. There is an event for everybody. Some of these events include shot put, hurdles, long jump, and the 100 meter dash. The first meet of the spring season, on April 4, went very well. The meet was on our own turf here at LMS, and was against the Lakewood Middle School Cougars. As the participants ran towards the infield, many excited parents and other students cheered with sheer exuberance. The day’s events began with the ever exciting 75-meter hurdle race. As the last racers began to make their jumps, the participants of the 100 meter dash began to congregate at the starting line. At the sound of the gunshot, six willing runners sprinted down the track.

Another track event that not only takes the will to try, but also pure endurance, is the 1600 meter, or 1 mile race. As you can probably guess, there were not a lot of runners willing to participate. Still, a fair amount of runners competed. 8th grader, Evan Kaiser was one of those few people, and he did amazing. He got first place in the boys 1600 race, and almost lapped the other runners.
